Correcting 3D AR-HUD Image Distortion and Defects at the Final Assembly Stage
The next generation of automotive head-up display (HUD) technology incorporates three-dimensional augmented reality (AR-HUD) to integrate images with the background environment outside the vehicle. In the manufacturing process, each HUD system component, including the windshield and the display system are tested to ensure visual quality and to measure conformance to regulatory requirements such as luminance and contrast.
But in the final assembly stage when all components are put together, issues of distortion or other defects can be reintroduced, requiring additional visual testing inside the vehicle on the production line. This white paper outlines the challenges of AR HUD system distortion and presents an approach for efficient in-line inspection and distortion calibration.
